Wind Cave National Park
|
American Indian stories dating back centuries speak of a "hole
that breathes cool air" in the Black Hills. Cowboys came across a
breathing hole in 1881 and the exploration of Wind Cave began. In 1903
Wind Cave, just north of Hot Springs in the Southern Black Hills, became
the first cave anywhere in the world to be designated a national park.
Cave explorers are still finding new rooms and passages in Wind Cave, and
at more than 132 miles it is the third longest in the U.S. and the fourth longest cave in the
world.

Badlands National Park

Deep canyons, towering spires, and
flat-topped tables can all be found in the Badlands. Yet, despite their
complex appearance, they are largely a result of two basic geologic
processes: deposition and erosion. And they are still evolving today.
The Badlands is located south of
Wall, SD off I90. For more information, click
