In 1903 Wind Cave, just north of Hot Springs in the Southern Black Hills, became the first cave anywhere in the world to be designated a national park. Badlands National Park

View of Badlands scenery at sunset.

Deep canyons, towering spires, and flat-topped tables can all be found in the Badlands. Yet, despite their complex appearance, they are largely a result of two basic geologic processes: deposition and erosion. And they are still evolving today.

The Badlands is located south of Wall, SD off I90. For more information, click here.
