Grand opening of new downtown Rapid City winery

The popularity of wineries in the Black Hills continues, as seen by the opening of the newest winery found in downtown Rapid City.

Firehouse Wine Cellars holds its Grand Opening this weekend, Friday through Sunday.

Festivities will include winery tours, Live Music with Dan Alsup, appetizers and buy-one-sample get two samples free.  Attendees at this weekend’s Grand Opening event can enter to win a drawing for one free bottle of wine each month for a year.

Firehouse Wine Cellars’ production area is 2,600 square feet and houses 24 stainless steel wine production tanks, each holding anywhere from 600 to 1,500 gallons of wine.  The lower level of the wine cellar, located in one of downtown Rapid City’s oldest buildings, houses oak barrels for aging many of the wine varietals.

The winery boasts state of the art equipment including a fully automated bottling line.  FWC wines are crafted under the watchful eye of winemaker, Rich Tanguay, who boasts over twenty years of experience producing wine for a discerning clientele in Carmel Valley, California.

On Saturday, June 21st, the winery will begin offering a historical double decker winery bus tour as a kick-off to the weekend’s events.  Tours will be nightly at 7:30 in the winery’s tasting room and will last for one hour.  The tour includes two glasses of Firehouse Wine Cellars’ wine and "will delight attendees with fun and little-known historical facts about Rapid City’s unique history."  This tour will run throughout the summer.

Firehouse Wine Cellars offers serious wine for experienced wine drinkers, along with some more approachable wines for "newbies" who are just beginning to develop an appreciation for wine.
