Official to Moniz: Power lines take too long

(AP) A Wyoming infrastructure development official told Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz the federal government is taking far too long to approve major power line projects.

Mike Easley is board chairman for the Wyoming Infrastructure Authority. He says federal review of two major power transmission projects in Wyoming, the TransWest Express and Gateway West projects, has been taking years longer than planned.

Easley was a panelist for a federal public hearing in Cheyenne on Thursday that focused on development of power lines, pipelines and other energy-related infrastructure. Easley says attempts to streamline power-line permitting are well-intentioned but keep getting bogged down.

Moniz says development of some infrastructure indeed is not keeping pace with booming energy development.

The hearing is part of an Obama administration review of U.S. energy infrastructure.
