State Prison Inmate Placed on Escape Status

RAPID CITY, S.D. – A state prison inmate has been placed on escape status after leaving his community service job site in Rapid City today.

Inmate Andrew Eastman, age 28, left the jobsite at the city landfill late this morning. It’s believed he took a white 2002 Dodge 3/4 ton pickup with the license plate number CTY 4976. The vehicle has the City of Rapid City seal on the doors along with the number M969. The vehicle has emergency lights on the roof and is missing the back tail gate.

Eastman is currently serving a three-year sentence out of Hughes County for unauthorized ingestion of a controlled substance, a consecutive seven-year sentence with two years suspended out of Hughes County for unauthorized ingestion of a controlled substance, and a two-year sentence from Pennington County for grand theft under $2,500.

Eastman is a Native American male, 6 feet 2 and approximately 250 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes.

Anyone who sees Eastman or the vehicle should contact local law enforcement immediately.

Failing to return to custody following an assignment or temporary leave constitutes second-degree escape, a class 5 felony, and is punishable by a maximum of five years in prison. South Dakota Codified Law 22-11A-5 states that any person who conceals any prisoner knowing that the prisoner has escaped is guilty of a class 5 felony.
