DON’T TRANSPORT PESTS

It was reported just last week, confirmation that the emerald ash borer continues its march this direction, and rather rapidly too. The EAB beetle has caused millions of ash trees in North America to die, which is why its imperative that you get your firewood from in-state sources.     Marcus Warnke, forest health program leader for the department of ag explains why…..

In a news release, the ag department said that the spread from Michigan to 29 other states has primarily been though movement of firewood cut from infested trees…..

He said it might be wise also to not transport firewood across the state as that can cause the spread of a pest to happen much more quickly….

The ash borer has not yet been found in South Dakota, but it’s arrival is expected eventually.
