Centerline Rumble Stripes in the Rapid City Region

CUSTER, S.D. – The South Dakota Department of Transportation says work to install centerline rumble stripes throughout the Rapid City Region will begin Thursday, Oct. 12 in the following areas:

S. Highway 14A Cheyenne Crossing – mile marker 29.3 to mile marker 31.8

S. Highway 14A Sturgis to Deadwood – mile marker  42.5 to mile marker 51.2

S. Highway 18 Hot Springs to Edgemont – mile marker  12.7 to mile marker 34.1

S. Highway 18 Oglala to Pine Ridge – mile marker  89.0 to mile marker 102.8

S. Highway 18 Pine Ridge to Gordon junction – mile marker  105.7 to mile marker 121.0

D. Highway 407 Pine Ridge to White Clay – mile marker  0.0  to mile marker 1.4

S. Highway 85 Buffalo – mile marker  124.9 to mile marker 135.0 (not through Buffalo)

D. Highway 44 west of Rapid City  – mile marker 26.9 to mile marker 30.7

D. Highway 44 west of Rapid City – mile marker 35.6 to mile marker 39.3

 

During the project, the contractor will be placing 74 miles of centerline rumble stripes and new permanent paint.Traffic will be reduced to one lane in the work zone for westbound and east bound lanes and controlled by flaggers and a pilot car. Traffic will be restored to normal flow at the end of each day and during night time hours.

Motorists can expect fresh oil on the centerline of the highway, short delays, suddenly slowing and stopped traffic, construction workers and equipment adjacent to the driving lane and are encouraged to use an alternate route.
