Chimney Canyon Fire

Piedmont,SD–Piedmont Fire and Ambulance Service and the Black Hawk Volunteer Fire Department responded to a reported wildland fire in the 11000 block of Chimney Canyon Road Canyon Road, Piedmont South Dakota.                                                          First arriving Volunteer Firefighters observed a fire burning in cured grass, dead and down timber in the 2005 Rico fire burn scar.

The fire temporarily threatened two (2) different set of structures, but firefighters mitigated the threat upon arrival on the scene.

Due to the location, terrain and weather conditions Firefighters requested additional help from the North Haines and Black Hawk Volunteer Fire Departments and the Pennington County Fire Service.

South Dakota Wildland Fire responded with engines, two hand crews and a dozer.  The U.S. Forest Service – Black Hills National Forest responded with engines and crew personnel.

Residents in the immediate area where notified by law enforcement of the incident, however there were NO evacuations.

At 4:30pm the fire is currently at 14 acres, 10% containment and is burning on Private-State and Federal Jurisdiction.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the South Dakota Wildland Fire.
