Local Builders Angry with Mayor

The current president of the Black Hills Home Builders Association and many previous presidents angrily expressed their dissatisfaction at the Mayor’s suggestion to implement a flat fee building permit schedule. Mayor Steve Allender, during his budget presentation before Council on Monday said this fee, like many other existing Rapid City fee structures, has not been updated…

Hedrick the GM for Hult Homes and President of the Black Hills Home Builders Association said this unfairly targets them as they try to build affordable housing…

He said they were blindsided by the change, and that they have been “slighted and ignored”.

Jeff Lagge from Lagge Construction and former President of the BHHBA, said city leaders need to take affordability into consideration…

He said new housing will be impacted.

Council talked about hosting a public budget hearing to get community input, but have yet to schedule a date.
