JOHANNESBURG (AP) — U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in his latest Africa stop has praised Angola’s president for his actions against corruption. Pompeo says it will help attract investment to one of the continent’s largest economies. He told reporters the oil-rich but largely impoverished country has been “held hostage” to corruption for far too long. The United States also sees the southern African nation as a prime place in which to counter China’s influence. Pompeo is expected to arrive late Monday in Ethiopia, a key U.S. security ally in the Horn of Africa. This is the first Africa visit by a Cabinet official in 18 months.
