Veterans Banner Project Reminds Rapid City of Hometown Vets

-C.J. Keene, News Director

Today is Veterans Day, and communities across South Dakota are taking the time to highlight their veterans.

Taking “highlight” slightly differently though is Bill Casper, founder of the Veterans Banner Project, which attaches honor banners bearing the likeness of local vets to city light fixtures.

From those 20 humble banners, Casper has made the practice a Rapid City institution.

Casper said he feels overwhelmed by the success of the project.

The project, which was once only found in Downtown, now has banners hanging all over Rapid City. Families interested in sponsoring a veteran are encouraged to reach Bill at veteranshonorbannerproject.com
