Friday is the deadline to drop off donations as part of a community food drive sponsored by the City’s Public Works Department and AFSCME Union.  Donations from the community food drive support needy families through Feeding South Dakota.

The public can donate canned food and non-perishable items at several locations during the community food drive.  Food drive organizers are hoping to surpass last year’s impressive collection of 374 pounds of food and $250 in cash donations.

City officials say the food drive is important as the food items will be distributed by Feeding South Dakota during the upcoming holiday season.

“As we enter the final days of the community food drive, we are encouraging the public to donate and support the effort,” said Gelynn Passmore of the City’s Public Works Department and one of the food drive organizers.  “There are so many families who are struggling with the increased costs of food and other important items.  There are multiple drop-off locations and with a couple weeks for the drive, it’s a great opportunity for the public to make a real difference in the lives of so many this holiday season.”

Passmore is also hoping for a big community response during the one-day collection drive at the Mountain View Family Fare store this Friday.

Collection bins are placed at the following locations and times during the community food drive:

            **City Hall lobby/300 Sixth Street: Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m.

            **Rapid City Public Library/610 Quincy Street: Monday-Thursday 9 a.m.-7 p.m. and this Friday 10 a.m.-6 p.m.

            **Public Safety Building/300 Kansas City Street: Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m.-5 p.m.

            **Family Fare/751 Mountain View Road: Friday, November 17 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
