On December 18th in Rapid City, police were dispatched to a residence on Degeest Drive for a report of a vehicle that had recently been stolen. Upon making contact with the victim, it was reported that a suspect, identified as 35-year-old Jon Dillon of Pine Ridge, had entered the victim’s residence without their permission and taken the keys to the victim’s vehicle. The vehicle was gone prior to law enforcement’s arrival, so it was entered as an ‘Attempt to Locate’ in our local bulletins. Later in the afternoon, the vehicle was spotted in the area of N. Maple Avenue and Herman Street. The officer followed the vehicle for a short period and then attempted a traffic stop in the area of N. Maple Avenue and E. Anamosa Street. The vehicle did not stop and police pursued the vehicle. The pursuit was terminated several times for safety reasons, and then re-engaged when conditions were safe to do so. The vehicle was spiked multiple times, and it came to a stop in the parking lot of Founder’s Park. Dillon was seen fleeing the driver’s seat of the vehicle on foot and proceeded to run up the trails leading to M-Hill. As officers pursued Dillon on foot, he began to throw rocks at the officers. He was ultimately apprehended and placed under arrest. At one point, prior to transport to the Pennington County Jail, Dillon attempted to break free from law enforcement and flee again. Police apprehended him again and he was transported to the jail without further incident. Dillon was booked into jail for Grand Theft Auto, First Degree Burglary, Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, Aggravated Eluding, Obstruction, three counts of Aggravated Assault on Law Enforcement, Displaying the ID care of Another, a Pennington County Warrant, and a DOC Warrant.
