City sales tax receipts for November totaled more than $6.67 million, a record for the month of November.  The November total was a 2.04% increase over the total of $6.53 million in collections reported for November 2022.

Through 11 months, the City’s overall sales tax receipts total nearly $76.46 million, a 2.19% increase over the total of $74.83 million reported for the first 11 months of 2022.

For the first 11 months of 2023, two percent general sales tax collections was 1.96% higher ($71.07 million) than for the same period of 2022 ($69.71 million), which is trending 3.3 percent higher than budgeted.

The tourism sales tax collected for November was $400,940, 8.9 percent higher than collections for the same month in 2022 ($368,188).  For the first 11 months of 2023, the tourism sales tax receipts collection totaled $5.39 million, 5.25% higher than the $5.12 million collected for the same 11-month period of 2022.

“Trends held steady in November with our numbers and percentages remaining higher when compared to data from the same period a year ago,” said City Finance Director Daniel Ainslie. “We will get our final numbers for December and the year in a few weeks and we’ll be able to see the impacts of spending during the holiday periods and special events in the community.”

Sales tax receipts have increased in comparison to the same month a year ago in 10 of 11 months this year and have increased in 40 of 42 months since a three-month decrease experienced during the COVID restriction period (March-May 2020).

The November report is being shared this week with members of the City’s Legal and Finance Committee at today’s (Wednesday’s) meeting.  The meeting begins at 12:30 p.m. in the Circle of Friends Community Room of City Hall.
