Thanks to a generous donation from Black Hills Community Bank, the RCPD’s Youth Outreach Team will be receiving a number of items to be used to create ‘trauma kits’ for area youth. The trauma kits contain items such as toys, arts and craft items, and comfort foods that can be handed out to youth in the aftermath of a traumatic event or experience.

“In the last year we handed out roughly 30 trauma kits to support local youth exposed to the death of a family member, youth stranded in extreme weather conditions, and youth who have been a witness to violence in their home and/or community,” says Jamie Kirsch, RCPD Community-Based Violence Intervention Manager. “Every youth supplied with the trauma kits was incredibly grateful and excited to know that the community cared about their well-being. It has also certainly changed the perception of law enforcement in the eyes of affected families as well.”
