Monday’s Rapid City Council meeting will include a year-in-review presentation by the Youth City Council and a ceremony to administer the oath of office to the new youth council for the 2024-2025 term.
The City Council meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. in Council Chambers of City Hall.
A total of 10 new members have been selected for the 18-member Youth City Council. The term of office runs from June to next May. New members joining the Youth Council include Sakurako Tinant, Emerson Buchholz, Emma O’Loughlen, Brody Gill, Macie Donovan, Ben Ganje, Sylvie Mortimer, Zoey Barth, Charles Youngblood and Elijah McPherson. Being sworn in for a second term to the Youth Council will be Euana Matute, Shourya Goyal, Kanin Booth, Genevieve Beautiful Bald Eagle, Ashlynn Wellman, Dylan Tipton, Amelia Schaefbauer and Blixa Lee Broussard.
The Rapid City Youth City Council was created in late 2019 with approval of the Rapid City Council and began meeting in January 2020. The Youth City Council, comprised of 18 members from various schools in the Rapid City area, provide an accessible channel for open communication between the Rapid City Common Council and youth in the community with opportunities to spark civic engagement and gain valuable experiences.
The Youth City Council meets at 6:30 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month in Council Chambers of City Hall. The Youth Council includes several committees and members organize and participate in numerous community events and activities during the year. Members are also assigned to attend meetings of the Rapid City Common Council and provide meeting briefings to the youth council.
