PUBLIC REMINDED OF PARKING & TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS FOR FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS PARADE

City officials remind the public of traffic and parking restrictions along the parade route for Saturday’s Festival of Lights Parade in downtown Rapid City.

The parade route will run along Main Street from the South Dakota Mines’ O’Harra Stadium area to Seventh Street, from Seventh Street to St. Joseph Street and along St. Joseph Street to South Dakota Mines and the O’Harra Stadium area.  Effective at 3 p.m. Saturday, there will be no parking and all cars must be removed from the 500 and 600 blocks of Main Street and St. Joseph Street and the 500 block of Seventh Street.

Also beginning at 3 p.m., officials will close streets to traffic from E. St. Patrick Street and E. St. Joseph Street all the way to East Boulevard.  At 4 p.m., the remainder of the parade route will be closed on Main Street and St. Joseph Street from East Boulevard to Seventh Street.

Drivers not attending the Festival of Lights parade are asked to utilize alternate routes, accessing Mount Rushmore Road, Omaha Street, Cambell Street and St. Patrick Street.

Message boards advising of the road closure have been placed in the downtown and affected areas.

The Winter Market in Main Street Square is scheduled from 2 to 6 p.m. with the lighting of the Square’s Christmas Tree scheduled between 4:45 and 5 p.m.  The Festival of Lights Parade is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.

Drivers are advised to use caution as a high volume of pedestrian and vehicle traffic is expected in the downtown core area Saturday.
