The South Dakota Senate Select Committee on the Nomination of the Lt. Governor voted unanimously yesterday (Wednesday) to confirm Tony Venhuizen as lieutenant governor.
Gov. Larry Rhoden selected Venhuizen, citing his experience in state government and the legislative process.
Venhuizen served as chief of staff under former Governors Dennis Daugaard and Kristi Noem and represented Sioux Falls in the state House.
The position requires Venhuizen to serve as Senate president and first in line of succession if the governor cannot serve.
Venhuizen pledged to maintain South Dakota’s fiscal conservatism while building relationships between the executive and legislative branches.
The House and Senate need to confirm Venhuizen’s appointment before he can take office.
