Large-Scale Response to Auburn Fire Continues Today

As much as 750 acres are believed to be burned north of Rapid City, as the Auburn Fire continues to be battled today.

No structures or lives have been reported lost at this time, though evacuation orders remain in place for some residents on the active fronts of fire.

Tessa Jaeger, public information officer for the Rapid City Fire Department said the largescale response continues into today.

Great progress was made overnight as a result of favorable conditions, putting the fire at 25 percent containment.

Jaeger said the difference between 0 percent and 25 percent containment shouldn’t go understated.

Difficult weather conditions are forecasted to continue during the days in the Black Hills, with highs in the 90’s expected today.

Jaeger said she’s confident the crews can handle it.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

A fire is burning in North Rapid City, forcing evacuations to be carried out by the Rapid City Police Department, and a major response from the Rapid City Fire Department.

Tessa Jaeger, public information officer for the RCFD, shared the scale of the response.

No size estimate is available for the fire right now.

Brendyn Medina, community relations officer for the RCPD, said numbers aren’t available for the number of mandatory evacuations yet either.

Jaeger said firefighters are actively battling to save homes right now.
