The City of Rapid City will be adjusting schedules, services and operations for the upcoming holiday periods covering Christmas Eve Day, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
CITY OFFICES: City offices will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday, December 24-25 and Wednesday, January 1 in observance of the Christmas and New Year’s Day holidays.
The City’s Public Works Committee meeting will be held as scheduled at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, December 31. However, due to the New Year’s Day holiday falling on Wednesday this year, the City’s Legal and Finance Committee meeting will be held immediately following the Public Works Committee meeting. Both committee meetings will be held in Council Chambers of City Hall, 300 Sixth Street and are open to the public.
A special session of the Rapid City Council is scheduled for Monday, December 23 for consideration of year-end items. The session is scheduled for 7:30 a.m. in Council Chambers of City Hall.
RAPID CITY LANDFILL/TRASH COLLECTION: City Solid Waste Division officials announce adjustments in trash collection schedules and hours of operation for the Rapid City Landfill during the upcoming Christmas and New Year’s Day holiday periods. The Landfill will close its gates to public access at 11:45 a.m. on Tuesday, December 24 – Christmas Eve Day. The Landfill will remain closed through Christmas Day and will reopen Thursday, December 26.
With the Christmas holiday closure, the trash collection schedule will be adjusted. There will be regular collection scheduled Monday, Thursday and Friday of the Christmas holiday week, leave out until collected. Tuesday and Wednesday’s collection will be scheduled one day earlier than usual, leave out until collected (Tuesday’s collection will be on Monday, Wednesday’s collection on Tuesday).
In addition, Solid Waste Division officials indicate recycling collections will be suspended during the Christmas holiday week period of December 23-27. Recycling collection will resume during the New Year’s Day holiday period. Customers can also take overflow recycle materials to the remote site stations at Fitzgerald Stadium and West Boulevard North.
The Landfill will also be closed Wednesday, January 1 in observance of New Year’s Day. Trash collections for Tuesday and Wednesday, December 31 and January 1, will be scheduled one day earlier, leave out until collected. All other days of New Year’s Day holiday week – Monday, Thursday and Friday – will have normal trash collection.
RAPID CITY LIBRARY: The library will be closed Christmas Eve Day and Christmas, December 24-25. The facility will close at 3 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and closed New Year’s Day, January 1.
RAPID TRANSIT SERVICES: Rapid Transit Services (RTS) will suspend transit operations for both Christmas Eve Day and Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. This would include RapidRide and Dial-A-Ride services. RTS will resume operations on Thursday of each holiday week.
THE MONUMENT: The facility will be closed Christmas Eve Day, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
ROOSEVELT PARK SWIM CENTER: The Roosevelt Swim Center will be closed on Christmas Eve Day and will be closed Christmas Day. The facility will be open for adult programming beginning at 5:30 a.m. Thursday, December 26 with open swim scheduled from noon to 7:45 p.m. The facility will close at 4 p.m. on Sunday, New Year’s Eve Day (December 31), will be closed New Year’s Day and open for normal operating hours on Thursday, January 2.
ROOSEVELT PARK ICE ARENA: ROOSEVELT PARK ICE ARENA: The Ice Arena will close at 4 p.m. Christmas Eve and will be closed on Christmas Day. The facility will close by 4 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and will be closed on New Year’s Day. All other activities, including public skate, will be run as scheduled other than the holiday-related closures.
RAPID CITY STREETS: The Streets Department office will be closed Christmas Eve Day, Christmas and New Year’s Day, however crews will be dispatched for snow events.
RAPID CITY REGIONAL AIRPORT: Rapid City Regional Airport will be open throughout the holidays, however administrative offices will be closed Christmas Eve Day, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. Travelers are advised to check the status of individual flights with the airlines.
RAPID CITY FIRE AND POLICE: Both departments will be operating regular shift schedules during the holidays with administrative offices closed on both holidays.
