South Dakota officials reacted the shootings of Minnesota lawmakers..
South Dakota Governor, Larry Rhoden, in a press release, ordered that flags be flown at half-staff from sunrise until sunset at the State Capitol on Saturday, June 14, 2025, in honor of Minnesota state representative Melissa Hortman.
“South Dakota stands in solidarity with our Minnesota neighbors as they mourn Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband. Violence has no place in our political system — and it must end,” said Rhoden. “Sandy and I will be praying for the families and all the loved-ones of the legislators impacted by this senseless violence.”
Sioux Falls Mayor, Paul TenHaken, said on X “My prayers are with our neighbors in Minnesota in the horrible death of Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband and the shooting of state Sen. John Hoffman and his wife. A cost no public servant should pay and we grieve with their families today.
U.S. Senator, John Thune said on X “Horrified at the events unfolding in Minnesota. Kimberley and I are praying for the loved ones of the state lawmaker and her husband who were assassinated and the state senator and his wife who were also injured in this assassination attempt. Political violence has no place in our nation.”
U.S. Representative, Dusty Johnson, said on X “I’m appalled at the horrific attacks on Minnesota lawmakers. My thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their loved ones, and all Minnesotans. Political violence has no place in America.”
