Kristi Noem, the U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security and former South Dakota governor, was hospitalized in Washington, D.C., yesterday, after experiencing an allergic reaction. She was taken by ambulance to George Washington University Hospital out of caution and the latest update reports Noem to be alert, conscious, and recovering, according to DHS spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin. The cause of the allergic reaction remains unclear. Noem, 53, has been a prominent figure in the Trump administration, leading immigration enforcement efforts and overseeing a department with 260,000 employees.
