Two new government accountability laws will take effect in South Dakota on July 1, with training for state employees already in progress. Signed by Governor Larry Rhoden, the legislation is designed to bolster integrity across state government.
One law mandates that employees report misconduct or criminal activity, while the other offers protections for whistleblowers against retaliation. Both measures were introduced by Attorney General Marty Jackley and received strong support from the Governor’s Office.
Alongside the legislation, Governor Rhoden issued an executive order establishing a secure reporting system and initiating statewide employee training. He emphasized that these efforts are focused on safeguarding taxpayer interests and ensuring a transparent, accountable government.
