Sanford Health, based in Sioux Falls, continues its West River expansion with recent acquisitions of Black Hills Orthopedics and Creekside Medical Clinic. Following its partnership with The Good Samaritan Society, the organization’s footprint in Rapid City is growing.
At this week’s Black Hills Press Forum, Sanford CEO Bill Gassen expressed appreciation for the community’s warm welcome and emphasized the value of competition in improving patient care.
“We’ve always benefited from strong competition. It makes us better providers—for Sioux Falls, and now Rapid City too,” said Gassen.
Monument Health CEO Paulette Davidson echoed his sentiment, noting that healthy competition strengthens the healthcare system and benefits patients through collaboration and expanded access.
While Sanford hasn’t announced specific future plans for Rapid City, Gassen confirmed that broader organizational growth is underway.
