A former local news anchor was sentenced Thursday after pleading no contest to a charge of simple assault – domestic violence stemming from an incident in February 2024.
Shad Olson told the judge he had little recollection of the incident, stating he was in “a different state of mind” at the time.
Prosecutors had requested a 180-day suspended jail sentence. Instead, the judge granted Olson a suspended imposition of sentence, which allows the charge to be cleared from his record if he meets all court-ordered conditions.
As part of the sentence, Olson must:
- Complete anger management counseling
- Submit to search and seizure
- Refrain from consuming alcohol for 365 days
- Have no contact with the victim or the victim’s residence
The court’s decision emphasizes rehabilitation and accountability while ensuring protection for the victim.
