After a delay of more than a month, the recount for Rapid City’s Area 6 school board race has been rescheduled. Both candidates confirmed the rescheduled recount will take place Thursday, at 1pm in the Pennington County Auditors Office.
Challenger Brian Johnson requested the recount after narrowly losing to incumbent Jamie Clapham by just three votes—546 to 543—on June 3.
Originally slated for June 12, the recount was delayed when Johnson objected to four of the five individuals the district recommended to oversee the process, citing their close ties to the district.
Despite the pending recount, Clapham was sworn in for her second term at the July 1 RCAS board meeting.
