The South Dakota Department of Transportation will launch a rockfall mitigation project on U.S. Highway 14A in Spearfish Canyon starting Tuesday, July 22. Work will occur daily from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., including weekends, and is expected to wrap up by Wednesday, July 30.
The project zone lies about ½ mile south of Victoria and 3½ miles north of Savoy. During active rock scaling, traffic will be stopped in both directions, with delays of up to 30 minutes.
The $75,000 project, led by CAN USA, Inc., aims to reduce future rockslide risks and improve safety for motorists.
