Sturgis Police were involved in two high-speed chases over consecutive nights, both ending in arrests.
The latest incident occurred overnight from Saturday into Sunday when officers attempted to stop a black Dodge pickup for speeding and equipment violations. The driver fled, leading police through residential streets and over Sly Hill at high speeds. The pursuit ended when the vehicle veered off the road at Bighorn and Bear Butte Road and landed in a ditch.
The suspect ran on foot but was quickly apprehended. He faces DUI and multiple traffic charges. His identity has not been released.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol and Meade County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the pursuit.
Just one night earlier, Sturgis officers chased a speeding motorcycle eastbound on Highway 34. The motorcyclist eventually pulled over and was arrested on multiple charges.
Chief Geody Vandewater confirmed both incidents and commended the coordination between law enforcement agencies.
