Rapid City’s Community Development Department held a public open house Thursday to discuss proposed regulations for vacation home rentals.
The proposed rules stem from recommendations made by a city-appointed steering committee, which reviewed community input and best practices from across the country. Planning Projects Division Manager Marlo Kapsa emphasized that the ordinance reflects both local concerns and national research.
Following the open house, the draft ordinance is expected to move through the city’s Planning Commission and City Council in the coming months. Residents will have additional opportunities to voice their opinions during public hearings before any regulations are formally adopted.
