Rapid City Eyes Lease of Solid Waste Facility to PureCycle for Plastics Recycling Plant

The Rapid City Council has discussed leasing part of the city’s Solid Waste Facility to PureCycle Technologies, a Colorado-based energy recycling company. The proposal involves PureCycle leasing 10 acres to establish a plastics recycling facility, which would process 150 tons of polypropylene daily, producing 36,000 tons of recycled plastic annually. The plant aims to create 50 jobs and operate 24/7. The lease would generate $15,000 monthly for the city, with an initial 20-year term and options for three 10-year extensions. The council is reviewing the plan, with a public hearing scheduled for August 19, 2025, to finalize the decision. PureCycle’s facility could enhance local recycling efforts and economic growth.
