A Rapid City man was arrested late Saturday night after allegedly fleeing from police and trying to assault an officer during a DUI stop. The incident occurred around 11:40 p.m. near the intersection of Custer Street and Farlow Avenue, where officers confronted a vehicle over a parking violation. The driver, 38-year-old Joshua Brunson, reportedly showed signs of impairment, including slurred speech.
During the stop, Brunson fled on foot, prompting an officer to deploy a Taser, which failed to subdue him. Police say he then attempted to tackle another officer before being subdued and handcuffed after a brief struggle.
Brunson was booked into Pennington County Jail on multiple charges, including fourth-offense DUI, obstruction, resisting arrest, assaulting a law enforcement officer, driving with a revoked license, possessing an open container in a vehicle, and a parole violation.
