Early traffic numbers for the 85th Annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally are showing a notable uptick, compared to previous years. According to the South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT), over 247,900 vehicles entered Sturgis between Friday, Aug. 1 and Monday, Aug. 4 — marking a 10.5% increase over the five-year average for the same four-day period.
- Monday, Aug. 4 saw the largest gain as 68,906 vehicles represent a 19% increase.
The SDDOT is tracking daily vehicle counts from nine key entry points around Sturgis and will release a full report, including data from across the wider Black Hills region, during the week of August 18.
