Rapid City is advancing a significant land annexation near the airport, with the City Council unanimously approving three voluntary agreements Monday night. The annexation covers approximately 1,250 acres of agricultural land located between Ennen Drive and Radar Hill Road, about five miles from the airport.
The largest portion—over 843 acres—is owned by Darrell and Jeanne Ennen. The remaining land is split between Valley Development LLC and Sturgis Properties LLC, both Rapid City-based firms.
City staff began working with the landowners months ago, citing the presence of a city-owned water main on the property and the need to guide future development. Officials praised the cooperation of the landowners throughout the process.
The annexation and related rezoning requests will go before the Planning Commission on August 21, followed by reviews from the Legal & Finance Committee and City Council in early September. If approved, the annexation would take effect after a 20-day waiting period.
