New Underwood High School has been awarded a $5,000 prize as part of T-Mobile’s nationwide Friday Night 5G Lights initiative, which supports small-town high school football communities across the country.
The school is one of 450 selected to receive the grant, which celebrates the spirit and impact of local football programs. With an enrollment of just 92 students as of September 2024, New Underwood High School—home of the Class 9AA Tigers—joins a growing list of rural schools recognized for their community engagement and school pride.
In addition to the $5,000 award, New Underwood is now in the running for the program’s $1 million grand prize, which will be awarded later this year.
The initiative highlights T-Mobile’s commitment to investing in grassroots sports and fostering school spirit in underserved areas. Community support and social media engagement are key factors in advancing through the competition.
