Governor Larry Rhoden has yet to announce whether he’ll run for re-election in 2026, but a newly formed political action committee is already throwing its support behind him.
The Strong Safe & Free PAC, chaired by State Representative Mike Derby, was launched this week to promote Rhoden’s potential candidacy. Derby cited Rhoden’s leadership during a pivotal legislative session, when he stepped in as governor mid-session and helped cut $80 million from the state budget without reducing essential services.
“He’s got a rancher’s sensibility, common sense, and a strong work ethic,” Derby said. “I think he deserves another shot.”
The Republican primary is set for June 2, 2026. Other candidates in the race include Aberdeen businessman Toby Doeden, House Speaker Jon Hansen, and Congressman Dusty Johnson.
