Rapid City Area Schools (RCAS) announced it will eliminate more than 100 bus stops for the upcoming school year in an effort to reduce route cancellations and improve transportation reliability.
The decision follows months of analysis, including a district-wide busing study, community forums, and discussions with families, drivers, and school staff. The updated routes are designed to minimize delays, reduce travel time, and address ongoing driver shortages.
RCAS aims to enhance student safety, ensure more consistent on-time arrivals, and improve overall attendance by streamlining transportation. The district plans to monitor the new system closely and make adjustments as needed to keep families on schedule.
The new busing plan takes effect August 19.
