Public schools in Rapid City are gearing up for the start of the 2025–2026 academic year next week, and district leaders say they’re well-positioned to welcome students—though some hiring continues.
Rapid City Area Schools Assistant Superintendent Cory Strasser reported a strong summer recruitment season, with enough teachers in place to launch the school year. Strasser says the district is hoping to fill some math and science teaching positions and are working to fill a few spots at the elementary level.
Special education staffing remains a priority as well. Keyra Comer, Director of Special Services added while the department has enough staff to meet student needs, there are still some openings that would help reduce caseloads.
