The Crook County Sheriff’s Office has announced the suspension of active search efforts for Linda Thacker, a St. Onge woman reported missing on August 18. The decision was made following extensive search operations that yielded no new evidence suggesting Thacker remains in the Boundary Gulch area.
Thacker’s vehicle was previously discovered near the Wyoming–South Dakota state line in Boundary Gulch, prompting a large-scale search involving multiple agencies. Resources deployed included helicopters, K-9 units, drones, human trackers, and search and rescue teams from both states.
Authorities stated in a release Thursday, “As of 0800 hours on August 28, we have made the difficult decision to suspend active search operations.” “This does not mark the end of our efforts—our investigation remains ongoing.”
Officials emphasized that the search could resume if credible new information emerges indicating Thacker may still be in or near the area.
