Rapid City police arrested two individuals early Tuesday morning following a traffic stop that escalated into a foot pursuit and the discovery of drugs and a realistic-looking weapon.
At approximately 2:00 a.m. on September 2nd, officers observed a pickup truck traveling northbound on North Maple Avenue with a license plate violation. A traffic stop was initiated, and police made contact with the occupants of the vehicle. During the stop, one of the passengers provided a false name to officers. When asked to step out of the vehicle for further identification, the man fled on foot as officers attempted to place him in handcuffs.
Police pursued the suspect, who ignored repeated commands to stop and was seen reaching toward his front waistband multiple times during the chase. Concerned for safety, an officer deployed a Taser, successfully bringing the man into custody. He was later identified as 37-year-old John Parrado of Tucson, Arizona. As per protocol, Parrado was medically evaluated following the Taser deployment.
A search of the area in the vehicle where Parrado had been seated revealed a BB gun designed to resemble a real pistol, along with several items that field-tested positive for methamphetamine. Parrado was arrested on charges of Obstruction, Resisting Arrest, Impersonation to Deceive Law Enforcement, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and an outstanding warrant.
The driver of the vehicle, 31-year-old Lynnzi Yelloweagle of Rapid City, was also taken into custody. She faces charges of Driving Without a Valid License, No Proof of Insurance, and a Probation Hold.
Both individuals were transported to the Pennington County Jail. Authorities have not reported any injuries related to the incident. The investigation remains ongoing.
