Rapid City is making strides toward securing funding for opioid addiction treatment through a $79 million settlement. On Tuesday evening, the City Council approved a measure allowing Mayor Jason Salamun to move forward with joining the Purdue Direct Opioid Settlement.
The settlement funds are earmarked to support rehabilitation programs for individuals recovering from opioid overdoses. South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley has already voiced his support for the city’s involvement.
To participate in the settlement, Rapid City must submit the necessary documentation by the deadline of September 30, 2025.
