Authorities continue to make progress in the investigation of a deadly assault that occurred Monday evening at Oxford Square Apartments, located at 225 E. Watertown Street. The incident, which claimed the life of 24-year-old Michael Ladeaux of Rapid City, has led to multiple arrests and renewed scrutiny of the troubled apartment complex.
Around 9:15 p.m., police responded to reports of an assault in progress. Upon arrival, officers found Ladeaux unconscious in a hallway with severe injuries. Emergency aid was administered before he was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Witnesses identified 24-year-old Joshua Thunderhawk of Rapid City as one of the assailants. He was arrested and charged with Second Degree Murder. Following further investigation, police sought 31-year-old Tyler Ironboy, also of Rapid City, as a second suspect. Ironboy was apprehended late Tuesday afternoon and charged with Aiding and Abetting Second Degree Murder, along with a parole violation.
Secondary Arrests were made during the initial investigation while canvassing the apartment complex as police encountered several individuals with outstanding legal issues including:
John Blackbear, 55, of Allen – arrested on two warrants. Clara Poorbear, 34, of Rapid City – arrested on a U.S. Marshals warrant and for impersonation to deceive law enforcement. Latonna Waters, 32, of Rapid City – arrested on five warrants. Dustin Yatsayte, 34, of Rapid City – held on a parole violation.
Oxford Square Apartments has been the site of multiple violent incidents in recent months, including a homicide on August 27 and a recent armed robbery. The Rapid City Police Department (RCPD) has increased patrols in the area and raised concerns with the property managers, Tzadik Management, about deteriorating conditions and lax oversight.
Among the issues are unsecured vacant units enabling squatting and illegal activity. Repeated criminal behavior by tenants and guests and lack of maintenance contributing to unsafe living conditions.
RCPD is also engaging with Tzadik Management regarding similar concerns at Star Village and Lacrosse Estates.
Authorities urge anyone with information related to the September 8 homicide to contact RCPD at 605-394-4131. Anonymous tips can be submitted by texting “RCPD” followed by the information to 847411.
