A Rapid City man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for a stabbing incident that left the victim seriously injured and requiring surgery.
Teton Quiver, 38, appeared in court Tuesday after pleading guilty to aggravated assault. He was initially charged with attempted murder following the attack, which was captured on video. The victim survived but sustained significant injuries.
During sentencing, Quiver addressed the court, stating, “I’m not trying to be a violent person. I don’t want to be a violent person.” He also claimed to suffer from schizophrenia and said he has not received proper treatment while in jail.
Judge Robert Gusinsky acknowledged the severity of the crime, telling Quiver, “You’re quite lucky you’re sitting here on an aggravated assault charge and not a murder charge.”
Quiver received a 15-year sentence, with three years suspended and credit for two years already served.
