A 19-year-old Spearfish man is facing multiple charges after allegedly setting fire to a home and firing a weapon at the residence during a disturbing incident Monday south of Lead.
Deputies from the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office responded to a property off Highway 385 following reports of a fire and a bullet hole in a window. Upon arrival, investigators reviewed security footage and determined that the suspect had damaged vehicles and property around the home and fired what appeared to be a rifle toward the house.
Authorities say the fire was deliberately started using a propane torch on the exterior of the residence. The occupants were alerted by a phone call, smelled smoke, and quickly dialed 9-1-1.
Following the investigation, Jaxson Burleson, 19, of Spearfish, was arrested. He faces charges including arson, aggravated assault, stalking, and intentional damage to property.
The case remains under investigation as officials work to determine the full scope of the incident.
