South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley announced that the trial of Joseph Hoek, charged in the 2024 killing of Moody County Deputy Sheriff Ken Prorok, will be relocated to Pennington County following a court order.
The decision came after a hearing in Flandreau last week, where the Circuit Court granted a defense motion to move the proceedings out of Moody County.
“The criminal justice system must uphold the rights of both the defendant and the victims’ families,” said Jackley. “I’m ready to present this case to a Pennington County jury in September 2026, or as soon as the system allows.”
The trial is set to begin on September 21, 2026, and is expected to last five weeks.
