South Dakota State University’s two leading support organizations—the SDSU Alumni Association and the SDSU Foundation—will officially consolidate on January 1, 2026. The decision was unanimously approved during the first-ever joint meeting of both boards held late last week.
Discussions around a potential merger have been ongoing since 2017, gaining momentum after the SDSU Foundation concluded its landmark Bold & Blue comprehensive campaign in April 2024. The campaign marked a significant milestone in the university’s fundraising efforts.
SDSU President Barry Dunn praised the move, calling it a “forward-thinking approach” that will strengthen the university’s future. The consolidation aims to streamline operations and enhance support for students, alumni, and the broader SDSU community.
