South Dakota First Lady Sandy Rhoden is calling on residents to nominate individuals who make a meaningful impact in their communities for the inaugural South Dakota Rising Award. The award aims to spotlight everyday citizens—outside of state government—who embody strength, service, and innovation.
Nominees will be considered across four categories: Healthy Rising Stars, for those who’ve made inspiring physical and mental health changes; Innovative Rising Stars, for community trailblazers; Servant Rising Stars, for those who give selflessly to others; and Sturdy Rising Stars, for individuals who’ve taken bold steps to improve their lives or uplift others.
Nominations are open through November 3, and selected honorees will be celebrated at a special ceremony in Pierre this December. The initiative complements existing recognition programs like the Governor’s Excellence Award, which honors state employees.
