Alphonso Bad Hand, 39, and Denna Andrews, 34, both of Rapid City, appeared in Pennington County Court Tuesday after allegedly assaulting a woman with rocks early Friday morning.
Police responded to a call at 2:05 a.m. near a convenience store on Mount Rushmore Road, where they found a woman with serious head injuries, including lacerations and bruises. Medics transported her to the hospital.
Officers later located Bad Hand and Andrews nearby. Bad Hand reportedly carried rocks with fresh blood, and Andrews had blood on her hands. Both face aggravated assault charges; Bad Hand also faces three counts of violating a no-contact order and has five other pending misdemeanors.
Judge Scott Bogue set their bonds at $10,000 cash only, Aggravated assault in South Dakota carries up to 15 years in prison and a $30,000 fine.
