The South Dakota Department of Health has confirmed four influenza cases so far this season — two in Minnehaha County, one in Pennington, and one in Fall River. The cases involve two men and two women, aged 25–49 and over 64. No hospitalizations have been reported, and flu activity remains “minimal” with sporadic spread as of October 8.
Last flu season (2024–2025), the state recorded 21,861 cases, peaking in early February with 3,472.
Meanwhile, COVID-19 cases in 2025 total 6,659. No new cases have been reported in October, following a drop from 802 in September — down significantly from 2,350 in September 2024.
