Airports across several states, including South Dakota, are not airing a video featuring Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem that blames Democrats for the ongoing federal government shutdown. Although the White House promoted the video as being shown at “every public airport in America,” many airports have declined to display it due to policy restrictions or lack of appropriate equipment.
In South Dakota, Rapid City Regional Airport said it had not been instructed to play the video, while Sioux Falls Regional Airport noted its monitors are reserved for flight information. Airports in Arizona, Michigan, and New Jersey also confirmed they are not airing the video, citing bans on political content and concerns over violating the federal Hatch Act, which restricts political activity by government employees during work hours.
The 30-second video features Noem, a former South Dakota governor, stating that “Democrats in Congress refuse to fund the federal government,” and acknowledging the impact on TSA workers. She adds, “Our hope is that Democrats will soon recognize the importance of opening the government.”
