Fire near Sturgis Quickly Contained

A small fire was quickly contained late Sunday evening near the Boulder Canyon Golf Club 3 miles west of Sturgis Sunday evening in Lawrence County. The blaze was reported shortly before 10pm and was 100% contained as of 11:44pm. Preliminary reports indicate the fire burned 1.2 acres. Cool and very windy weather is expected today, with a very high grassland fire danger across the western SD plains. Many areas will see gusts to 45 mph or higher. Isolated showers and possibly a thunderstorm are also possible this afternoon, which may produce locally higher gusts. Highs will be in the 50s, and minimum relative humidity will be 30 to 45 percent.
