Governor Larry Rhoden recognized the 89th Attack Squadron, known as the “Marauders,” at Ellsworth Air Force Base Friday for their critical role in Operation MIDNIGHT HAMMER—a U.S. strike on Iranian nuclear sites that ended the 12-Day War.
The squadron conducted 177 hours of intelligence and surveillance operations, providing key data that protected over 17,000 U.S. troops and supported strategic decision-making.
At a ceremony on base, Rhoden praised their “heroic service and sacrifice” and declared the day “89th Attack Squadron Appreciation Day.” This marks the first public acknowledgment of their involvement due to prior security concerns.
